Understanding Functions


The tubes inserted in the equipment are small in size. They are built up of plastic, and they are supposed to discard after one use. They are cylindrical in shape. The tubes have different sizes as per the fluid quantity. They come in 0.5 ml, 1.5 ml, 0.2 ml and 2 ml size. The most common tube size is 1.5ml. Disinfection of the tube is possible, but due to small size they are difficult to clean, but inexpensive. So it is better to purchase new one.


The maximum speed of this equipment is 13000 to 15000 RPM (round per minute). The equipment has a button that allows you to set the speed. Alike, centrifuge equipment the balancing of tubes is important-technically it is called sample loading balancing. By balancing we also mean that the quantity we are inserting in one tube should be similar in remaining tubes. Which means if one tube has 1.5 ml fluid, other tubes must consist around same quantity. Sometimes it is seen that the laboratory person has only one sample to test. In that case he can insert water or oil of the same density of the sample in other tubes and run the test.


There are two types of rotor;

  • Fixed Angle Rotor
  • Swinging Bucket Rotor

The rotor lids come in two types, one is plastic which is helpful in avoiding corrosions and are transparent. Second is built up of steel which is easy to use and much safer. Both have their own advantages, however, metal rotor lids are recommended.

Safety Measures
